A news verification platform for the Republic of Moldova, with AI running on its own servers
ABOUT THE PROJECT
RealInfo checks the news in the Republic of Moldova's information space, in Romanian and Russian.
Paste a text or a link and you get a credibility score from 0 to 100, explained, with its sources cited. The project started after winning the “Nistru TruthBridge” hackathon and became an ANCD research project.
The platform is at realinfo.md, and the checking app at system.realinfo.md.
CHALLENGES
Disinformation spreads faster than anyone can check it by hand.
Fake news in Moldova appears in Romanian and Russian, often following familiar patterns: financial fraud, “miracle cures”, false alerts, invented sources. Existing tools worked mostly in English and sent texts to services abroad.
We set out to build a platform that understands the local context, shows where every conclusion comes from and does not depend on paid APIs.
SOLUTIONS
An agent that searches, reads and cites, on language models that run locally.
For every check, RealInfo searches several search engines and about 50 Moldovan media sources, reads the articles it finds and writes a verdict with citations. If the verdict is uncertain, it searches again. Separately, it analyses the emotions, narratives and propaganda techniques in the text.
For images, two models detect swapped faces and AI-generated pictures; after tests on real press photos, false alarms fell from 67% to 11%. All models run on our own GPU cluster, with automatic failover if a node goes down.
RESULT
RealInfo is live and checks news in Romanian and Russian, without the texts ever leaving for third parties.
